MTV
Project: "In a Flash: Adventures in Hollyhood"
Agency: Hatchling Studios
Running Time: 8 episodes averaging 1 minute each
Overview: MTV’s slick new show, Adventures in Hollyhood, features the members of the Oscar-winning Three-6 Mafia traveling to Hollywood to make it big. For the show’s promotional episode recap, MTV decided to push a bold new style of quick, fun animations instead of the usual video montage. Using audio provided by MTV, Hatchling created a lively, fresh way to review the rappers’ exploits
Creative: While MTV provided the audio script, it was Hatchling’s talented artist’s who came up with the myriad of sight gags that move the promos along. The characters were originally conceptualized as stick figures, but over time Hatchling artists developed them into a thicker, more rendered style, dubbed "Thick Figures."
Technical: Although Hatchling Animators created the Hollyhood animations in Flash, each frame was drawn traditionally. Thick Figure animation allowed Hatchling artists to create the short animations quickly and economically.
